Lake Omote-Hamana is a region spanning Maisaka-cho Chuo-ku Hamamatsu City and Arai-cho Kosai City and it is blessed with abundant aquatic resources, utilizing the Enshunada and Lake Hamana as fishing grounds and the variety of fish caught is diverse, it is famous nationwide for its whitebait(Shirasu), which boasts one of the highest catches in Japan, as well as tiger puffer fish and bonito.
Furthermore, aquaculture is thriving, with seaweed(Nori) and oysters produced within the Lake Hamana, and eel (Unagi) and softshell turtle (Suppon) along the coast, all gaining popularity as renowned Lake Hamana brands.
In recent years, there has been an enhancement of marine activities such as kayaking, fishing, and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) and it is popular as the starting point for walking and cycling around Lake Hamana. You can enjoy dishes made with local ingredients and purchase fresh seafood and processed goods from the area.
Maisaka-cho is a town rich in aquatic resources and history located to the west of Hamamatsu City in Shizuoka Prefecture, "just in the center" of Japan, serving as the "gateway to Lake Hamana". During the Edo period, Maisaka-shuku was the 30th post town from Edo and Arai-shuku was the 31st. The Imagire ferry crossing point, connecting east and west by water transport, thrived as a bustling hub for transverse transportation and it is a town that still preserves historical landscapes, including rows of pine trees of Maisaka-shukuwaki-honjin, Ichirizuka, Mitsukenoishigaki, Kitagange, and Tokaido etc.
